John Bullough bought Meggernie for £103,000 on 27 September 1883
exclusive of timber to be valued” from twenty-five year old
William George Steuart-Menzies,
whose family had owned the Castle since 1659.
It was William George who planted many of the trees,
including the magnificent avenue of limes.

When John Bullough bought Meggernie his son George was thirteen years old.
