“John Bullough bought Meggernie for £103,000 on 27 September 1883

exclusive of timber to be valued” from twenty-five year old 
William George Steuart-Menzies, whose family had owned the Castle since 1659.
It was William George who planted many of the trees, 
including the magnificent avenue of limes.
