PROFESSIONAL ASSESSMENT OF THE CONDITION OF
MARTHA BULLOUGH PORTRAIT

The canvas was found to be in a fair
structural condition with “minor deformations and bulging.”

The edges were secure, but all eight wedges of the wooden framework to which the work is attached were missing.

The initial paint surface on the canvas, the ground layer, was found to be stable. Some scuffing of the paint surface, fine cracks due to age and shrinkage and craquelure, were noted.

No mold or woodworm.
